Eligibility

  • Individuals who have significantly contributed to basic science, translational, or clinical research relevant to orthopaedics are eligible for nomination.

  • The nominee must be responsible for a body of musculoskeletal research that has been conducted and published over the course of the individual’s career. This body of work must advance the depth of understanding and further the dissemination of orthopaedic knowledge in a particular area. The work may be ongoing.

Submission

  • Nominators may propose only one candidate per year for the award. Candidates may be nominated by others or may self-nominate.

  • Prior to nomination, the candidate must agree to be nominated and be able to fulfill the travel and presentation requirements.

  • All nominations must be submitted using the required nomination form. Click here to access the form.  

  • All nominations must be submitted by email to The Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons® (ABJS®) at [email protected]. Please use “Nicolas Andry Lifetime Achievement Award Nomination” and the nominee’s last name in the subject line.

  • The nominator must highlight five most impactful peer-reviewed papers published by the nominee on the particular area of orthopaedics, the principles developed and promoted, and what advancements in orthopaedics the research led to.

  • The nominator may be contacted to provide further information about the nomination.

  • Please include a copy of the nominee’s current curriculum vitae.

  • Up to two supporting letters may be included with the nomination.

Criteria for Selection

  • The Awards Committee will consider the following in making their decision:
        1) The scope of the body of work related to the area of focus
        2) The impact of the principles developed and promoted
        3) Clarity and coherence of published work relevant to the area
        4) Current relevance of the body of work

Award

  • The awardee must present the work at the next annual meeting of The Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons, April 8-12, 2026, in Napa Valley, CA.

  • The registration fee for the Association’s Annual Meeting will be waived for the awardee and one accompanying person.
    Coach airfare and two nights hotel expenses for the awardee will be paid by the ABJS®.
